A police officer has been charged with assaulting a doorman outside a Sussex club.
Detective Inspector Anthony Giles, a Surrey Police officer, is due to appear on bail at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, February 12, charged with common assault and with making threats of violence, in an incident to which local Sussex officers were called outside the Chameleon Club in Horsham shortly after 2am on December 22 last year.
Giles, 43 was off-duty at the time. The victim of the alleged common assault, who was not injured, was a door supervisor outside the club, which had just closed at the time. Giles had not been in the club.
A Surrey Police spokesman said Giles had not been suspended but was on "non-operational duties" so is currently not in a public-facing role.
