Young patient Benji Fagg has been trying out the latest equipment donated to a children’s hospital.

Benji, who will be three tomorrow, was fascinated by the portable sensory centre now at the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton. It is among £19,000 worth of equipment given to the hospital by Brighton-based charity Rockinghorse, the hospital’s official fundraising arm.

The money was raised by the charity’s Christmas appeal, which included various events such as Dress as an Elf on the Twelfth, tombolas and raffles.

The play centre can be used by babies and children too poorly to leave their rooms, providing sensory stimulation and entertainment.

Other equipment and supplies donated included new toys and games, two Medikin dolls which will be used as a teaching aid to prepare children undergoing chemotherapy, six manual recliner chairs so that parents can stay overnight, and a Dinamap machine which records the patient’s heart rate and monitors blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
