Love is all around Brighton as British Heart Foundation shops prepare for the most romantic day of the year.

The UK’s leading heart disease charity is encouraging customers to wear their heart on their sleeve and post love notes in its shop windows this Valentine’s day.

Its hearts campaign is the perfect opportunity for cash-strapped lovebirds to impress their other half, as well as helping out a worthy cause.

Manager at the London Road store, Kevin Hough said: “Hearts and Valentine ’s Day go very well together and it’s a fun thing to do.”

Any message is welcome on the heart shaped cards and there have even been marriage proposals.

This year lucky David could be in for a surprise. A mystery romancer has posted: “David will you marry me? I (heart) u.”

Customer Anouchka Lincroft from Palmeira Square posted a note after receiving one from her daughter last year.

She said: “It’s a really lovely idea so I thought I’d pass it on to somebody else.”

Romantics are asked to donate £1 to the BHF, and Mr Hough said: “It ups our profile as it sends loved ones down to the shop to look at them.

"We then hope they’re encouraged to come inside and spend.”

“A lot of literature the British Heart Foundation put out is very serious stuff. To be able to put light-hearted messages out it cheers everyone up, especially in the winter.”

People can post messages until February 16.
