My wife has recently come home from hospital after some major open-heart surgery.

I should, by now, be able to take her for little outings in the car around Brighton and Hove.

Unfortunately, this is not possible due to the state of the local roads and the “shaking-up” she would receive.

Birdham Road, in both directions, is so full of cracks and potholes it’s bump, bump, bump all the way.

Hodshrove Road and Widdicombe Way, with their ridges and uneven surface, are also bumpety-bump and uncomfortable to drive on.

This is the case likewise with Nyetimber Hill.

Moulsecoomb Way, which is full of ridges, is like driving on tramlines.

And once one gets down to Lewes Road it is not much better.

From Moulsecoomb Way to the Vogue Gyratory, the road is full of cracks and has an uneven surface in spite of the recent re-surfacing work carried out once the bus lanes were finished.

With the bumps and continuous swerving to avoid potholes, driving on any of these roads would be a discomfort and painful for any elderly or infirm passenger.

If anyone thinks I have exaggerated they should drive over these roads. But don’t blame me if your car’s suspension is kaputt.

All these roads are on main bus routes and I am surprised the bus company has not complained to the council.

With the millions of pounds spent on bus and cycle lanes, not to mention the quarter-of-a-million to be spent on a referendum, and the proposed £36 million loan for the i360 viewing tower in mind, when is our Green council going to sort out its priorities and spend some money on the important things such as roads?

Disgusted and all shook up,
