While I agree with a lot of Geoff Bishop’s sentiments (Letters, February 10) that we do not want Brighton and Hove Albion becoming a crisis club like others in the Football League, I think he is wrong on two counts.

First, the £30 million academy is an investment which will be the future of the club.

Southampton, even when in financial trouble, kept its academy in shape, producing Gareth Bale, Theo Walcott, Luke Shaw and others. We have seen the Albion’s youth policy produce Solly March, Lewis Dunk, Jake Forster-Caskey and more.

The hotel could also be an investment: imagine our French cousins wanting to see English football with a ferry trip, overnight stay in a hotel and then a ferry trip back. The potential is enormous.

You could blame the Premier League in that it’s the only competition that rewards finishing bottom with a £60 million bonus.
