Under previous administrations we had black boxes for recycling which were left out on the morning they were due to be collected. No problem.

The Green administration decided it would make the system more efficient, firstly by changing the collection rounds. This was a total disaster as ours never got collected unless we pointed out that the recycling had not been picked up, with boring regularity.

Then it installed roadside recycling bins and said to leave the black boxes out for collection. This hasn’t happened either and now, where I live in St Aubyns, the pavements are full of black boxes.

In addition, the council has failed miserably in emptying the new roadside bins in our area and our bottle bank is overflowing, with bags of bottles now littering the pavement.

You would have thought that after three months it would have got it right, but no.

Trying to get any reaction from so called “Cityclean” is a waste of energy as you may as well talk to a brick wall.

As a “green” council, I would have thought recycling was a priority.

Ray Farrow, St Aubyns, Hove

It is clear that either collections are not frequent enough, or facilities are insufficient.

You would think a Green-run council could get this right. In addition, refuse collection at many blocks of flats is erratic at best.

Please can the council get a grip, respond to residents when they complain and sort out this mess? We have had enough.

Councillor Andrew Wealls, Conservative, Central Hove ward, Brighton and Hove City Council
