A man is fighting for his life following a crash into a bus shelter by the Brighton seafront cycle path.
It took place on theshared footway and cycle path on the Upper Promenade parallel to the A259 King's Road, Brighton.
A Sussex Police statement said: "At 11.13pm on Friday, a 45-year-old Hove man riding a racing-style pedal cycle westbound along the shared footway and cycle path on the Upper Promenade parallel to the A259 King's Road, Brighton, was in collision with a bus shelter.
"He suffered potentially life-threatening head injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton. He was later transferred to the neurological unit at Hurstwood Park, Haywards Heath, where his condition remains critical.
Anyone who saw the collision or the cyclist prior to it happening is asked to phone Sussex Police on 101 or email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk, quoting Operation Harris.
"The cyclist was wearing a dark jacket and beige trousers. The collision occurred opposite the Odeon Cinema."
