I have recently taken trips from Crawley to attend court cases at Brighton Magistrates' Court in the public gallery.

However, on each occasion, I have been left wondering if I’ve gatecrashed a private committee muttering amongst themselves.

I understand defendants also have a similar difficulty in hearing proceedings while in their own glass partitioned area.

Surely one would expect it would be considered important that everyone attending would be able to hear clearly?

Is a sound system really beyond what we would expect in an arena of such public importance?

One can’t help wondering why it is that, in a legal system this country is apparently proud of, it’s so difficult to hear justice being done...
