Travellers have set up camp at a site in Worthing.

Three caravans arrived yesterday evening on grass land to the west of the car park at Greensward, Marine Crescent - land owned by Worthing Borough Council.

A Worthing Borough Council statement said: “West Sussex County Council has been informed as part of the new multi-agency approach to tackling unauthorised encampments.

“Officials will visit the site and arrange for a welfare audit to be carried out in order to assess the situation and ascertain the travellers' needs, the environmental impact of their presence and the loss of public amenity. A decision will then follow as to appropriate legal action.”
