What can be done to sort it out?;

I would sack Geoff Raw (the Council Director who oversees Cityclean). I think I forgot to mention on the other 'binmen' story that he receives a £125,000 salary (plus huge pension contributions) so I just thought I'd rectify that here......

Our bins are pretty much never collected on the right day, and havent been for months, probably well over a year. They are generally collected on a Saturday.... overtime anyone? I personally think the bin men love all the disruption and actually look for issues to enhance their overtime payments.

Geoff Raw should be long gone, he hasn't got the guts to stand up against the unions, and he lets the workforce take him for a fool.
The bin men earn a good wage for the job but now they are trying to call the tune, there is a very good solution - outsource, this will make them think twice

I thought that the Council had hired some woman a year ago on £110,000 to sort out the collections, if she's still in place they should sack her as the collections of both bins and recycling is sporadic at best.

Bins are more often than not collected weekly. However the day varies. This week it was on the correct day but I'm not going to give praise for simply doing their job.
Yesterday we had the recycling collected for the first time in 5 weeks...

To be honest, if they do strike I'm not sure I'll notice the difference!

Curiously, before the service was updated to be "better" and "more efficient" both bins and recycling were always collected on the correct days...

I've just seen all my recycling dumped into a wheelie bin and then into a normal refuse truck, what is the point of separating all the recycling if they are just going to put it all together into landfill. This Green council is worse than useless, 13 months and counting.

The rubbish and recycling service has simply fallen apart. In the last 45 years I don't remember it being this bad.

Whoever now runs this rubbish service (take that statement as you will) simply hasn't a clue. Whatsmore the councillors to whom the officers are, nominally, responsible do not care, at all, as they are too busy lording it up over the i360 which will turn into another pile of rubbish for the council tax payers of this city to complain about.

Never mind, we can take comfort from the fact that HJarrs is too busy looking into the problem to harang us as being moanerati for daring to complain about it - after all, we are only the suckers paying for this risible service.

Sorry to say, but me too!

I think once over the past few months they were a day late with the recycling and once, horror of horrors, the refuse collection was at 2pm instead of the usual 6:30am.

As such, I think they are actually doing an excellent job, but I imagine we will always get to hear more of the failures than the successes.

However, we don't need another strike - to BHCC and your 'leaders' - please do what you are paid to do and sort out the mess that you have caused by implementing your policies - remember you are supposed to be working on our behalf.

Let's see now ....

Green..... Very very doubtful, a trolls position will always be the one that causes the most consternation within their target audience.

Girl ...... Nope , almost certainly not.

1990 .. Possibly , I'd put them slightly older and no way are they a student at uni.

Don't acknowledge them and they will get bored. They may come back in a few different guises but eventually it will get tedious to them.

Remember folks. DON'T FEED THE TROLL.

PS. Bluenose isn't anywhere near as entertaining as GG. Must try harder.

I will make this very plain to all of you who have not been to university, I will therefore not use any long words.

The problem with refuse collection in Brighton is all due to refuse collectors who, being working-class, vote BNP. It is Brighton Green Councils desire to sack all of these individuals and replace them with workers who fully understand the tenets of diversity, multiculturalism and enrichment.

Whether you like it or not, Brighton Greens are here to stay; accept it, or go and live in some Right-wing hell-hole like Bognor Regis

I'm actually pleased to hear that - at least you're getting what you pay for.

Where we are in Westdene, until just before Christmas, I'd have said exactly the same - since then it has been total chaos - we're at week 14 now, just 3 times has the rubbish been collected according to the rota i.e on the correct day, the recycling is barely any better and was nearly a week late being collected this week - that having been told by the council that it would be collected on Saturday!

I know I said this in the other story but wider knowledge always helps.

The whole system is impractical and outdated, Cityclean need to phase in the Envac system that countries like Sweden, Denmark, America and Spain have installed.
The system uses underground tubes and air vacuum technology that take all the waste & recyclables to a terminals where it is collected from.
This will result in major benefits for all residents of our city.

-No collection trucks will need to clog up the roads to collect from hundreds of individual bins, just from the terminals, less congestion for cars and not being stuck behind one up a one way street

- Streets are cleaner, being a sealed system and automatic collections, overflowing bins will be a distant memory and pests like rats and seagulls will decline as the will no longer have access to this food source

- Cheaper to operate & less pollution, with so few collection trucks needed and the system only relying on electricity to run the costs are greatly reduced along with the pollution generated by diesel engines

Cityclean can then apply more resources and labour to the things that the system can't collect like bulky waste/furniture, cleaning grime off pavements such as the kilotons of gum, cleaning the litter stupid people just drop instead of walking that 5ft to a bin.

This will result in major benefits for all residents of our city. -No collection trucks will need to clog up the roads to collect from hundreds of individual bins, just from the terminals, less congestion for cars and not being stuck behind one up a one way street - Streets are cleaner, being a sealed system and automatic collections, overflowing bins will be a distant memory and pests like rats and seagulls will decline as the will no longer have access to this food source - Cheaper to operate & less pollution, with so few collection trucks needed and the system only relying on electricity to run the costs are greatly reduced along with the pollution generated by diesel engines Cityclean can then apply more resources and labour to the things that the system can't collect like bulky waste/furniture, cleaning grime off pavements such as the kilotons of gum, cleaning the litter stupid people just drop instead of walking that 5ft to a bin. I just recently moved to Brighton after living in many cities around the world and I've never seen a more disorganised rubbish/recycling collection service anywhere.

Our skip on the corner is literally overflowing onto the ground at least once a week, making a disgusting and unhealthy mess. Our "weekly" recycling pick up day is missed so often that it's pretty much 50/50 if they're even going to bother turning up any given week. I see many people have just given up on it and throw their recycling into the landfill skip now rather than leave it out on the street for several days to get picked over by flying rats and dogs.

Personally I support the green party, but really this is a crap job. Or is it the bin men just causing trouble because of a political agenda?

It seems like the Bin men are just being lazy bums and now they want to go on strike?

The refuse collectors have had their rounds changed and parts of the fleet have been taken off the road, yet you blame them for being 'lazy bums.' Even the leaflet with the new rounds listed on it had to be reprinted as they got all the information wrong. Blame the management, not the workers.

I blame both, the management are clearly inept and the bin men appear to like to milk it for everything they can get out of it while at the same time putting in the minimum amount of effort. The bin collections in Brighton have been hit and miss at best for longer than any of the recent changes. The only thing that hasnt changed throughout all of this is the people collecting the rubbish.... so I am going to say they play a big part in all of this.

Good grief - if you're going to comment then at least understand the process !

If you'd bothered to observe properly then you would have noticed that the glass was put into one wheelie bin and then into a separate section of the truck and everything else into another wheelie bin and then into another section of the cart.

The glass is kept separate and everything else is sorted later.

I'm all for highlighting how incompetent Cityclean management and Geoff Raw are but at least put forward an intelligent and factually correct comment.

Did you report this to your councillors? Did you ring the council to query? Speak with the binmen to ask Why? Residents need to be involved in these little ways to prod the machine into action when it "sticks". You know. Give it a knock to get it going.

Are you serious. I tried contacting my councilor twice and also Kitkat about an issue and neither of them bothered to even contact me. The councilor was too bothered at that time about someone selling pink bikes to worry about his constituent. Can't wait for when he knocks on my door next May asking for my vote. Revenge is a dish best served cold. As for contacting the council you really must be deluded. They read off a script and if it is not on the script they can't answer you. My neighbour has solved the problem by having three green bins and loads of recycling boxes but then she works for the council and claims that she gets these because of that.

Valerie Paynter - what world do you live in?
What sort of grip on the reality do you have?

All over our city people have been giving 'a prod' to this service for months if not years.

We complain, we ring, we write, we send emails, we contact our local representatives - and nothing happens. The rubbish isn't collected and the recycling piles up. Nothing changes.

An essential part of the Green Party fraud is to create the impression that procedures are in place to register complaints, to listen to them and take action. This is all part of the fraudulent grammar of Greenspeak.

But these are all just formal procedures - they have no substance. The complaint procedures are not designed to solve problems at all. They are just more evidence of the way in which Lucas, Kitcat and the rest of the wretched bunch of them set out to befuddle and bewilder us.

That is exactly what we have done since Christmas - and EXACTLY the response that we have had.

Your conclusion, sad as it makes me as a council tax payer, is absolute fact.

You'll be lucky.......if he knocks on your or any other door!

I'd send him away with recycling in one hand and uncollected rubbish in the other.

Many years ago, thye one and only time that I ripped (very politely) into a council candidate (over a local planning issue) the response I got was one of shocked horror that I expected them to have some grasp of what was happening on their doorstep when expecting me to vote for them.

I take it your "involvement" and approaches to the council have bought about a 100% success rate - if so, I wish you'd let us in on your secret, because where we are this little "nudge" (every single week since Christmas) simply has not worked, indeed I've been starting to wonder if the council deliberately avoid servicing our street because myself and other neighbours do contact them every time a delivery is missed......

......as for the crews themselves, many of them are agency workers and we never seem to see the same team two weeks running - they are polite and good humoured but at as much of a loss as we are as to how the service runs - or rather.....doesn't.

I take it your "involvement" and approaches to the council have bought about a 100% success rate - if so, I wish you'd let us in on your secret, because where we are this little "nudge" (every single week since Christmas) simply has not worked, indeed I've been starting to wonder if the council deliberately avoid servicing our street because myself and other neighbours do contact them every time a delivery is missed...... ......as for the crews themselves, many of them are agency workers and we never seem to see the same team two weeks running - they are polite and good humoured but at as much of a loss as we are as to how the service runs - or rather.....doesn't.[/p]
Try taking tmed and dated photos of specifics (evidence) and tweeting them to the council....forget the twitter address just now.[/p]
That might be useful if they were interested, but they are not and it is therefore a waste of time.

You'll be lucky.......if he knocks on your or any other door!

I'd send him away with recycling in one hand and uncollected rubbish in the other.

Many years ago, thye one and only time that I ripped (very politely) into a council candidate (over a local planning issue) the response I got was one of shocked horror that I expected them to have some grasp of what was happening on their doorstep when expecting me to vote for them.
the recycling is taken to Hollingbury where a team of elite "HAWK EYE pickers carefully sort it all out ,,, i know many many people still separate the individual recyclables out that's all good . . Brighton council 100% confirm that nothing from recyclables is out in to landfill . some actually goes to create electricity .. an Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) designed to process waste which is not recycled, whilst producing enough electricity to supply 25,000 homes in the area

No, I watched them and it all went into the back of a standard refuse truck, no separate area for glass

This is NOT the fault of the Green Council, so don't anybody DARE say that it is.

@Green_Girl_1990 - very funny - I wasn't sure before, but now - excellent Troll! I always look forward to your posts and the reactions you get. Keep up the good work!

A chip of the shoulder of Jason KitKat.

Aggressive, presumptuous, controlling, and stupid. Actions one would not naturally associate with the Green Party - unless you live under their regime!

Perhaps this is in fact you Jason?

Regardless, you are rude and thoughtless. I went to university. Oxford in fact. Does that make my views more superior to yours? No! I'm also working class.

You are a complete idiot and the Green Party are welcome to you. What chance do we have with idiots like you spouting their rubbish.
