The topic of energy has cropped up again through letters to The Argus (March 29, March 31 and April 1) – and will only continue to do so.

Regardless of how much energy is produced, it can only be a good thing to have renewable energy harnessed directly from nature.

Those against renewable energies will say they are not efficient and that we risk national powercuts, etc.

Renewable energies are by no means perfect, but the idea should always be to look to combine them together in order to cut down on fossil fuel usage.

Even if wind power provided 10% of our domestic power needs, that’s still a 10% reduction on the amount we need to harness through coal or shale gas.

Chuck solar power and hydro power into the mix, each contributing about the same percentage of power, and we have cut fossil fuel usage by nearly a third.

I’m not against fracking but we really should be exploring other forms of energy in order to temper ever-rampant oil prices.

Combining energy sources seems to be something a lot of people have a great issue with, and I really can’t understand why.
