I would like to agree with John Morris’s letter in The Argus (April 24) on the subject of bonfires.
On a hot summer’s day, one likes to have windows open but they are soon quickly closed when one’s property is invaded by foul-smelling garden waste being burnt.
Is this really necessary? As John states, most people have access to a waste disposal site.
Also Adur and Worthing councils can provide garden wheelie bins for just over £1 per week – a worthy investment for any enthusiast.
At present there are no council bylaws to prevent the antisocial behaviour of bonfires.
I think it’s about time we made it a crime to light a bonfire in your garden. I would have thought this would be something Brighton and Hove’s Green council would be in favour of. Let’s hope we have a smoke-free summer.
