Vigil for abducted Nigerian girls to be held tonight

First published in News

Tonight a vigil will be held for the school girls abducted in Nigeria.

A silent vigil will be held this evening in Brighton in an effort to help raise awareness and to show solidarity for the 240 girls stolen from their school.

People are asked to turn out with candles, tealights and signs to show their support.

The event is arranged by Free University Brighton.

Vigils are happening all over the world and are being held in towns and cities across the UK this week.

Brighton Pavilion MP Caroline Lucas wore a red ribbon on Question Time to show her support.

The vigil will be held at 7.30pm at the War Memorial, Old Steine, Brighton.

I certainly hope these poor kiddie are returned safely, but I am not convinced that these vigils are a good idea.

They are certainly irrelevant as far as raising awareness goes. If they are being held globally, it means that the....er.......glob
e is already aware of their plight. The fact that the US and UK governments are involved in the search shows that even our politicians are aware of the situation.

Further, giving publicity to that deranged barbarian who speaks for Boko Haram will only encourage him to greater and more vile acts.

Some hideous Nigerian Muslim was watching Lucas last night on Question Time and thought to himself "Hey that really popular and thoroughly gorgeous woman is wearing a beautiful red ribbon around her wrist. I think I will let all the little schoolgirls go"

Self-obsession at its highest!!

The self-importance of Lucas is quite extraordinary.

Can she take no cues from those around her or from the well of public discourse?

She is deeply loathed and can only do damage to causes she seeks to support.

Such violence towards women and girls is to be deeply loathed.

On Question Time women never get to speak as long as the men. It is a sexist programme.
