A man has been charged with escaping from lawful custody after being found in Eastbourne on Sunday.

Officers launched a manhunt after Samuel Lee, 44, failed to return to a mental health centre in Homerton, East London, after an authorised trip on Thursday.

He was being detained at the John Howard Centre on Kenworthy Road.

He was found in Eastbourne on Sunday where he was arrested prior to being transferred to an East London police station.

Lee, who was charged yesterday, has been remanded in police custody and will appear at Thames Magistrates' Court this morning, police said.

the guy was on an arrainged released from a mental health unit, so he is charged with escaping from lawful custody. one wonders what the authorities are doing these days, the charge will be quietly dropped as it will not stick, there will be an internal enquiry with findings never released, and then not held until this matter is long forgotten, and this guy will apply to google to ensure that nobody else can easily find out what occured in years to come. and of course we have no idea why he was being detained in a mental health unit in london, yet released to wander at will to eastbourne.
