A SERVICE which connects people affected by cancer with their local community is being piloted in Brighton and Hove.

Team Up is an online project provided by Macmillan Cancer Support.

It matches those dealing with the condition who need practical help with local people who have a bit of spare time to give.

Team Up community manager Karen Barford said: “We know cancer can affect you physically, emotionally and financially, as well as practically, making everyday errands and household chores more of a struggle.

“These simple tasks can become another weight on your mind, particularly if you do not have family or friends close by who can help out.

“We want to help make sure people in Brighton and Hove do not have to face cancer alone by lending a helping hand and taking away this extra source of worry during a difficult time.

“If you’ve just been diagnosed with cancer, are currently having treatment, are in recovery, or if you care for someone who is, then please register with Team Up.

“Whether it’s some light gardening that needs doing, a bit of laundry ironed, or someone to pick up your groceries, just sign up to our website and a helpful local person will be matched to your task.”

Almost 100 people across the city have already been getting involved and support is growing.
