ARCHITECTS will tell the story of breathing new life into Saltdean Lido.

Paul Zara and Nathan Zaver, from Conran and Partners’ Brighton office, will talk about their years of support for the campaign to return the lido to its former glory and the plans being drawn up for its future, with the Community Interest Company now in charge of the building.

Earlier this year Conran and Partners was appointed as lead consultant in the renovation of the historic lido.

Saltdean is the UK’s only grade II* listed lido and one of only three remaining at the seaside.

Saltdean Lido CIC was granted a 60-year lease of the property last December from Brighton and Hove City Council with a remit to restore, renovate and modernise the pool and its building, which has been on English Heritage’s ‘at risk’ register since October 2011.

And a major fundraising drive is under way to secure the estimated £5 million needed for the lido’s refurbishment.

Saving Saltdean Lido is a free event organised by the Design Brighton group.

It will take place at The Old Market on Thursday, June 19.

Doors open at 6pm for a 6.30pm start and will be finished in time for the England v Uruguay World Cup fixture.
