The Argus: Palestine protest halts city centre traffic Palestine protest halts city centre traffic

Pro-Palestine protestors shut off a city centre road with an impromptu march against the intensifying conflict in the Middle East.

More than 100 protesters are estimated to shut off North Street in Brighton on Saturday with an impromptu march.

The protest, organised by the Brighton and Hove Palestine Solidarity Campaign and University of Sussex’s Friends of Palestine Society, was one of dozens organised around the world this weekend against Israeli airstrikes in Gaza which have claimed more than 150 lives in less than a week.

The campaign was launched in response to the kidnapping and murder of three Jewish students last month and the firing of rockets into Israel.

The protesters met at the Old Steine War Memorial in Brighton at 11am on Saturday before deciding to make an impromptu march up to Churchill Square and back which brought traffic to a standstill.

A spokesman for the Palestine Solidarity Campaign said: “It still surprises me how many people don’t know what is going on out there.

“They might know something about bombs but have no idea that 150 people have died and don’t know the background to it.

“We are hopeful this and other protests will put pressure on the British government and MPs to come out and put their head above the parapet and condemn the air strikes.

“It also shows people in Gaza that they are not alone, we were getting tweets from people in Gaza and they were retweeting our photos of the march.”

The background to it is the constant barrage of rockets fired, by Hamas, from Gaza into Israel - thousands of them each day - but that seems to be ignored by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, who, let's face it, just like Hamas, are only interested in the complete destruction of Israel.

We are fully aware of the daily bombardments of Israel by people who YOU support. People like you who choose to ignore what the Palestinians are up to are no better than those doing the shelling.

Palestinians have been given two areas of land in which to control their own affairs and live peacefully alongside their Israeli neighbours. They have shown that they aren't fit to do so and that they have no desire to do so. When Israel retaliates to aggression (most of which the IDF ignores) there is an outcry from stupid, ignorant people like you.

If he were, Gaza would be obliterated.

Instead, Israel goes for surgical strikes, rather than the indiscriminate shelling that the Palestinians visit upon Israel.

People in Brighton are sickened & appealed by Hamas, who have fired 800 rockets in 5 days at Israeli civilians.

Israel has both a moral & legal right to self- defence.

Whist Israel has built bomb shelters to protect its civilians, Hamas has built bomb shelters to protect it's rockets. Hamas uses it's civilians to protect it's rockets.

There would be an immediate cease fire if Hamas stopped firing rockets at Israel. Until that happens Israel must defend itself, & people in Brighton will show their solidarity with Israel.

Imagine if rockets were fired at Brighton, we would demand to be protected.

Israel has more UN resolution filed against it than the entire world added together. (I would list them but they're pages long)

Amnesty international has continually found Israel guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity. (Again I would list but they're pages long)

Israel is currently the only western nuclear capable country not sighed up to the IAEA

Every leader of Israel was previously a member of either the Irgun or Stern gang. Which if anyone knows their history were terrorists organizations, killing Palestinians and British Soldiers.

Then there is the call for genocide against the entire Palestinian people by an Israeli lawmaker. But hey it's the lie that Hama's wants to wipe Israel off the face of the earth that matters.

Oh, but you don't mind when it's Israelis dying, do you?
And precisely how many Israelis have died in this latest round of fighting ?
Too many.
No - you show your ignorance yet again - the actual figure is thankfully 0

Naftali Frenkel, Gilad Shaar and Eyal Yifrach were murdered in the west bank NOT killed by rocket fire from Gaza. Even you must know that !

Those of us with intelligence do, matey.

Stupid, ignorant people? Read your own I'll informed moronic statement.

The Palestinians were given two pieces of land? Your so poorly informed its breath taking.

No doubt you will be telling us that the land was promised to the Jews by god?

Here's a few facts, for the poorly informed or paid by CFI proganda stooge.

Some idiot tried to argue against the facts.

Permit me to demolish his comments.

"The Palestinians were given two pieces of land? Your so poorly informed its breath taking."

The two pieces of land in question are Gaza and the West Bank.

That adds up to two...just like I said.

"Israel has more UN resolution filed against it than the entire world added together. (I would list them but they're pages long)"

And??

Israel has right to defend itself. The UN is a talking shop which is actively engaged in sending troops to Africa to rape the local populace.

I don't think that the UN can have the moral high-ground.

"Amnesty international has continually found Israel guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity. (Again I would list but they're pages long)"

Amnesty International isn't a court.

"Israel is currently the only western nuclear capable country not sighed up to the IAEA"

Good for them!!

If I lived in a country surrounded by retarded enemies, I'd want my government to be arming us.

Oh, and who is the only country to have nuked another?

NOT Israel.

"Every leader of Israel was previously a member of either the Irgun or Stern gang. Which if anyone knows their history were terrorists organizations, killing Palestinians and British Soldiers."

If they were muslim, you'd be creaming yourself in support of them, right?

Your beloved UN has proscribed Hamas as a terrorist organisation.

Your question is based on a premise that bears to link to reality, which is something that happens with a lot of people who consider themselves pro-Palestinian.

Define the Palestine in question...if you can.

There would be an immediate cease fire if Hamas stopped firing rockets at Israel. Until that happens Israel must defend itself, & people in Brighton will show their solidarity with Israel.

Imagine if rockets were fired at Brighton, we would demand to be protected.
Imagine if a bunch of religious nutters came to Brighton and forced the native population out of their houses at gunpoint, maybe massacring the residents of Patcham pour encourager les autres, then moved their own families in, all the while claiming their sky pixie told them it was ok and claiming that actually they were the victims.

I'd imagine the people of Brighton would want to fight back don't you?
Well, the people of Brighton did fight back, together with other UK citizens, when we were bombarded by the Nazis, and, with the help of the Allies, we defeated them. Or would you have preferred it if we had just done nothing to protect ourselves, and decided to let them get on with it? Israelis are no different.

And maybe you no nothing about the bombs, including those planted by suicide bombers, in public places by Palestinian extremists, before Gaza was handed over to them. Many Israeli lives were lost then.

And then there was the 6 day war, when Israel was attacked by the surrounding Arab countries, who then suffered a bloody nose when Israel fought back.

You clearly, like so many other misguided individuals, think it is wrong for Israel to protect its citizens.

If this means doing so by any means, so be it.

As AlanPare brilliantly responded to Stevo!!

Symptoms of Narcissistic Personality Disorder

In order for a person to be diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) they must meet five or more of the following symptoms:

•Has a grandiose sense of self-importance (e.g., exaggerates achievements and talents, expects to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements)

•Is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love

•Believes that he or she is “special” and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high-status people (or institutions)

Correct.

If he were, Gaza would be obliterated.

Instead, Israel goes for surgical strikes, rather than the indiscriminate shelling that the Palestinians visit upon Israel.

There would be an immediate cease fire if Hamas stopped firing rockets at Israel. Until that happens Israel must defend itself, & people in Brighton will show their solidarity with Israel.

Imagine if rockets were fired at Brighton, we would demand to be protected.
As ever a ridiculous argument and justification for Israeli aggression - no-one is likely to fire rockets at Brighton because we haven't stolen the land of another people or keeping 1.5 million people prisoner as the Israelis are doing to the people of Gaza or continuing building settlements on occupied land against numerous UN Resolutions or murdering innocent men women and children all of which, and more, Israel has done for decades and continues to do so!!

Goodness.....so many stupid comments to respond to.

"Simple, Israel adheres to UN resolutions and the rockets stop."

If only it were that simple.

There is no evidence that the Palestinians are even aware of what the UN is. Hamas etc always claim that those shelling Israel on a daily basis are acting of their own free will, so if they are defying their own leaders then they'll certainly defy the UN.

Palestinians will stop dying as soon as they learn to live in harmony with their neighbours.

"Anyone who knows anything about Oslo knows that it was a farce that achieved nothing!!"

It established two areas where the Palestinians could govern themselves.

It also helped to remind the world that they aren't fit to do so.

"keeping 1.5 million people prisoner as the Israelis are doing to the people of Gaza"

They aren't prisoners. In fact, they would have free access to the riches that Israel offers if they weren't a danger to everyone.

" murdering innocent men women and children "

Any Israeli soldier suspected of murder will face a trial.

It isn't murder when the killing occurs in a war situation.

"But Israelis aren't dying are they you half-wit!!"

Er......yes they are.

This current round of aggression started as a result of three Israeli teenagers being murdered.

Of course, they were 'only' Israelis, and so don't count, right?

"No, you're not racist at all .... not in the slightest ! "

Correct.

There is nothing racist about pointing out how Palestinians fail themselves at education.

"As for the Amex, I've told you before, learn to read, digest and understand"

I've read your comments several times, as I've told you before, and your stupidity over the matter still makes me chuckle.

Once again you place your "opinion" above the facts.

No one is suggesting that firing rockets into Israel is right or productive for this situation.

You appear to place your opinion, that Israels response is reasoned and appropriate. However that body that you have such little time for, Amenity International begs to differ, as does international law.

You've hit the nail on the head. The inconvenient truth is that Israel are a bully state. They think the whole world owes them something and it's only a matter of time before something major happens on the same level as 9/11. If you keep prodding an animal too many times, eventually it WILL turn around and bite you!!
Israel believes it should be allowed to live in peace.

It has had to fend of attacks from its neighbours for 60.

The fact remains that Palestinians repeatedly shell Israel yet get all uppity when Israel responds....it is their response that I find amusing.

LargeAndInChargele is clearly having issues with reality.

The 'land-grabs' are actually the spoils of war started by Israel's Arab neighbours.

One doesn't have to be Jewish to know that Israel has a right to exist and defend itself.....one merely needs intelligence.

If the Israelis really were the new 'Nazis' ( a preposterous concept borne out of your desperation) then they would have conquered the Middle-East quite easily by now. The fact that Israel isn't marching into Gaza and taking the place over is completely unknown to you.

You're the ignorant one. How can u justify killing innocent people and then stealing their land?! Go **** yourself and your vile murderous Jewish god!!!!
Why don't you crawl back into your hole, you vile and obnoxious antisemitic rat.
Do you ever shed a tear for the innocent Palestinians that have been butchered for decades? Oh no, I forgot, they're not Jewish so they don't count!! I'm one of many who are fed up with all the cheerleading and justifying Israel's actions towards the Palestinians. Britain and America are supporting a renewed Nazi country. Yeah your god's chosen people have become just like the same ones torturing and killing you during the holocaust.
Hamas are antisemites like you are whose rallying cry is "Kill the Jews".

The only reason the Palestinians are getting killed is because Hamas have broken two ceasefires in the last week.

Had they agreed to either of these ceasefires continuing there would be no fighting and no none would be getting killed and injured.

Israel vacated its Gaza strip settlements in 2005, so it isn't building any new ones.

" If you keep prodding an animal too many times, eventually it WILL turn around and bite you!!"

Which is exactly what the people of Gaza keep discovering, lol.
lol?, You find this war/crisis funny?
I find it amusing that such a simple premise escapes the Palestinians despite the number of times they've been subjected to retaliation by the IDF.
funny or amusing ?

Strange things make strange people laugh
I agree.

Monty Python's success is a case in point.

The fact remains that Palestinians repeatedly shell Israel yet get all uppity when Israel responds....it is their response that I find amusing.

You're welcome.
Comparing the misery of that the Israeli's are inflicting on a poor and comparatively defenceless group of people with a UK 1970's comedy show?

Palestinians lob a few rockets over which achieve what?
I suppose if you were a Palestinian in the west bank would you just accept the way things are?

The intent of Hamas woud have been to kill more. The problem lies with the proimitive missiles they are using. Surely if they upgarded to more powerful units from that nice Mr. Putin they could kill more Israelis? News today said Hamas fired 100 rockets yesterday and yet only one person was killed. This is due to the 12 second warning system used by Israelis which allows them enough time to dive for cover before the Hamas missiles strike.

Hams therefore need to do 2 things:

1. Upgrade their missiles with greater accuracy and killing ability
2. Use a different trajectory to cut the 12 seocnd warning to less than 5 seconds.

The above will allow Hamas to kill far more people than they are doing.
Of course, Hams must accept the consequences of their Jihad and if they continue to live by the sword they must accept death and destruction will follow. The Palestinians will, as always, be the main victims of Islam.

Hamas /Palestinians are only using dated missiles against one of the most sophisticated and well equipped armies in the middle east

Any Israeli action is likely to be disproportionate to what the Palestinians have done, probably killing tens if not hundreds of innocent civilians

Stevo,

I compliment you on all your posts.

You write facts as opposed to the distortions some of the contributors write.

If your critics such as Dr Martin, Wide Bertha, gheese77, J Hunty and Falmar Wizard were truly concerned at the plight of the Arabs as opposed to an opportunity to criticise Israel (and in some cases the Jews) they would have placed posts regarding the massacres of Arabs in Syria, Iran, Egypt and various other other countries and their silence shows that they have no genuine concern for the plight of Arabs and that their only interest is to criticise Israel (and in some case the Jews).

Er.......you've given me a link to a BBC website.

I asked for the bit in this quote:

" Which is exactly what the people of Gaza keep discovering, lol"

which you claims refers to 'mindless violence'.

Shall we just accept that my statement doesn't refer to my delight at 'mindless violence' and that you're a liar for stating that it does?

Obviously, feel free to refer back to my statement, but do try to avoid wandering off this time - I don't work for the BBC, if that helps.

"I consider your quote shows your delight at mindless violence."

But you've already been told why the 'lol' was appended, haven't you? You discussed it with me on this very thread.

It had nothing to do with 'mindless violence', but with the inability of the Palestinians to comprehend what happens when they push Israel too far.

The convo with another poster went:

" " If you keep prodding an animal too many times, eventually it WILL turn around and bite you!!"

Which is exactly what the people of Gaza keep discovering, lol."

You queried as to whether I found the war/crisis 'funny', remember?

My response:

"I find it amusing that such a simple premise escapes the Palestinians despite the number of times they've been subjected to retaliation by the IDF."

No reference to 'mindless violence'.

You're welcome.

Yes, you admitted that you had lied when claiming that I had expressed delight over something, because you had already been told the fact of the matter.

You therefore knew that your accusation was false, and it was therefore a deliberately false statement. By altering it to "I consider your quote...." you're admitting that your claim was a lie.

Your silence shows that you have no genuine concern for the plight of Arabs and that your only interest is to criticise Israel and in some case the Jews.

I find it paradoxical that you take exception to my having shown you and those of like mind in their true light namely; haters of Israel and Jews as opposed of genuine concern for the Arabs.

Yes, a lot of people don't like what is going on in the real world, and when it turns up on this page, they show their dislike.

I consider each and every thumbs down to be an admission that someone cannot argue against what my posts contain.

I was recently delighted to receive -85 for one post.

Am Yisroel Chai.
I am concerned about the subject of this story " the Palestinians" and their treatment at the the hands of the Israeli's, stop trying to change the subject

ok
I suggest that you stop telling others what they should be writing about.

As for 'changing the subject', you start doing exactly that whenever you discuss other posters rather than what they write.

I'm still waiting for a quote from you in which I express delight at 'mindless violence', but we both know I've never done such a thing, which means that you lied when you claimed I had. How desperate doe that make you appear?

"Don't Worry I will post an argument if your posts merit one"

I've noticed, and I've enjoyed correcting you.
Quote from you " Which is exactly what the people of Gaza keep discovering, lol"
proven wrong my boy
The fact that you have chosen not to reply to the point I made shows that I was correct in concluding that if you, Wide Bertha, gheese77, J Hunty and Falmar Wizard were truly concerned at the plight of the Arabs as opposed to an opportunity to criticise Israel (and in some cases the Jews) you would have placed posts regarding the massacre of over 700 Arabs in Syria over the weekend by Isis as well as of Arabs in Syria, Iran, Egypt and various other other countries.

I have no problem if you hate me but would like you to clarify the reason. Is it because I am a proud Jew or a proud Zionist?
I am not here to comment on every war or massacre that has happened or is currently happening , I am here to comment about the plight of the Palestinians and their treatment by the state of Israel
I don't hate you as I don't know you, But I dislike your comments, your religion or where you come from is irrelevant
Your comment proves my point which is that you are more interested in criticising Jews and Israel rather than the plight of Arabs.

As you dislike my comments, I must be doing something right!

Palestine doesn't exist.

The area formerly known as that comprises part of the states of Israel and Jordan.

The conflict is taking place in Gaza.....shame you had to have that pointed out.

Oh yes it does

Boundaries of the region have changed throughout history, and were last defined in modern times by the Franco-British boundary agreement (1920) and the Transjordan memorandum of 16 September 1922, during the mandate period. Today, the region comprises the State of Israel and Palestinian territories in which the State of Palestine was declared.
Never disputed it was taking place in Gaza.

Yes, your admission to have lied was quoted back to you.

Quite why you're arguing with yourself isn't clear, but liars do have reality issues.

If it helps, you admission to have lied was as follows:

"I believe it was a reference to mindless violence"

which doesn't mention 'delight' on my part.

You're welcome.

You've already accepted that 'mindless violence' wasn't mentioned at all in the statement of mine that you quoted, so I therefore wasn't showing any delight at it.

For the record, I don't consider that Israel has used any 'mindless violence', so I could not possibly show delight about its use.

Just to remind you, you've accepted that it was your belief that I had, not that it was a fact that I had.
