Firefighters talked a two-year-old boy into passing a set of keys through a tiny opening in a car window after he got locked inside.
His worried mother was reunited with the unhurt toddler after firefighters showed him what to do with a set of their own keys.
The crew from Roedean station was called to a car in Marine Parade, Brighton, at 7.30pm on Friday evening.
In a panic his mother had managed to lock the two-year-old inside – with the only set of keys in the footwell.
Crew members demonstrated passing the keys through a slight opening in the window with a set of their own keys – and moments later he replicated their actions.
One of the firefighters said: “He was only two, it’s the first time I have seen a little kiddie actually manage to do that.
“He was a little shaken but we let him have a ride on the fire engine and he was soon ok.”
