AFTER a weekend in place the piano at Brighton station is still striking a chord with rail passengers.
Taking pride of place in the centre of the station concourse the red and yellow piano has been delighting commuters young and old as they travel through.
The idea was the brainchild of Labour parliamentary candidate for Hove Peter Kyle, but was brought to life by the Brighton Piano Warehouse.
The craftsmen at the warehouse, which has been trading for over 40 years, got in touch with Mr Kyle and the piano was commissioned.
The piano was picked out and given a striking red and yellow seaside pavilion-esque paint job by Lewes artist Paul Harrison.
Gemma Prior-Shooter, from Brighton Piano Warehouse, said: “The idea of a Punch and Judy theme seemed perfect for Brighton being by the sea.
“We decided on clear Perspex windows on the front panel of the piano so that visually you can see the workings inside, which makes it more interesting for children.
“We decided to write Southern Railway Please Play Me as a thank you to Southern Rail for allowing a piano to be placed in the station.
“The piano has a fantastic central position and is there for anyone to have a play.”
