An 81-year-old man was punched because he told someone to stop swearing.
He was sitting in Grand Parade on July 31 when he asked a man standing nearby not to swear.
He was then punched.
Bryan Rosewell, 39, of Compton Street, Eastbourne, was charged with assault.
Rosewell has been released on bail to appear at Hastings Magistrates' Court on August 20.
Among his bail conditions are not to go anywhere on Eastbourne Promenade until his next court appearance.
