TELL us about a person you know who has a passion and dedication for sport in Sussex and who richly deserves an award?

In November, at Theatre Royal Brighton, The Argus Community Stars Awards will crown winners of 20 different categories at a lavish ceremony hosted by TV celebrity Nick Owen.

The gongs return to Brighton for the 13th year, having previously been known as The Argus Achievement Awards.

Each day in the paper, we’ve been asking for your nominations for various different categories – and today we want nominations for our Contribution to Sussex Sport Award.

Amateur or professional, we want Sussex people who have made an outstanding contribution to sport at county level.

It could be a sportsman or woman who has dominated a sport or a team that has had a fantastic tournament.

But it could also be an administrator who has tirelessly worked to promote sport in the county, a coach who has worked hard to see their team get results, a volunteer who has dedicated their spare-time to promote sport or an event that has got everyone active.

Last year’s winner was Wendy Russell, a coach at Brighton and Hove Hockey Club.

The dedicated player-manager dedicated her free time to develop promising hockey youngsters and other aspiring coaches.

Natalie Dodd, who put her name forward, said: “Wendy coaches almost every night of the week plus weekends – whatever the weather.

“She is so brilliant and the development of the junior and ladies side of the club just wouldn’t happen without her dedication and encouragement.”

Other nominations included Whitehawk FC, which had a stellar football season after securing promotion to Conference South.

The first team battled its way through a tough league season and, thanks to local business backers, the club expanded its ground to 2,000 capacity and installed a new artificial pitch.

Football-mad Jadey Richardson was nominated after refusing to let cerebral palsy get in the way of his love of the game.

He raised a staggering £7,500 to realise his dream of buying ten specialist wheelchairs for people to use at the Crew Club in Brighton.
