- ALBION 2 CHARLTON 2
- Vetokele at the double (3, 75)
- Henderson makes great save from Teixeira
- Dunk heads hosts level TWICE (67, 90+2)
- Six pages of coverage in The Argus on Monday
Not the result Albion wanted at 3pm
But, in the circumstances, the feelgood factor lives on....
Colunga did well to win a corner in four added minutes – and Stockdale rumbled forward.
He even seemed to get his head on the delivery, albeit a glancing touch.
But LuaLua chipped the ball back across and DUNK netted with another magnificent header.
Bikey headed a corner wide right in front of the jubilant Charlton fans.
An Albion attack that seemed to be going nowhere suddenly offered hope when Holla was tripped five yards outside the box.
It was a very handily placed free-kick but Gardner’s curler bounced rather tamely off the wall.
A few hearts were in mouths when Vetokele and Dunk went down together in the Albion box, the ball ran loose and then Church hit the desk as a tackle came in.
Charlton verdict: Foul on either Vetokele or Church.
My view: Foul by Vetokele in the first place.
Ref said: Dive by Church.
Charlton send on Fox for Gudmundsson
Baldock on for Forster-Caskey
ALBION 1 CHARLTON 2: Virgo "Such a soft goal to concede, Greer needs to be doing better than that. Shot themselves in the foot" #albion— @BBCSussexSport 30 August 2014
Magic from VETOKELE as he controls a low cross to the near post, jinks inside Greer and lashes a low shot past Stockdale.
Teixeira burst through with Colunga alongside him and one defender back.
But the square pass hit the defender and bounced to Henderson.
Before that Henderson dived low to his right to hold a LuaLua shot.
And now Vetokele strikes again...
Attendance: 26189 (1,992 away fans)
Albion had called for a minutes’ applause on 67 minutes to honour fan and fund-raiser Tony Langridge who died recently, aged 67.
We had rather more than that thanks to Dunk’s goal on 67!
But the hosts should now be ahead....
Dunk has had at least one good goalscoring chance per match with a header from a corner. And it pays off here.
Bruno and Teixeira combined very nicely down the right to win a corner.
Holla flighted the ball in and DUNK rose majestically to head into the top corner, over the head of the defender on the post.
LuaLua is on for the Seagulls, replacing Mackail-Smith.
Dunk has gone into the book for a clumsy, mis-timed challenged on Vetokele.
Meanwhile Charlton have sent on Wilson, who has a habit of scoring against the Seagulls, for cousins.
Albion are still having plenty of the ball but Teixeira’s efforts to play his way through intricate little gaps are being picked off.
Sorry mikey, don't know much about our autorefresh.
I'll mention it on Monday becasue we have had a bit of web design of late.
Keep clicking for now.
One of them might bring Brighton a goal!!
The crowd have really warmed to Colunga, who is busy and quick and has a nice touch.
Such a shame about that chance!
He put in a good cross which somehow eluded both CMS and the onrushing Gardner at the far post a few minutes ago.
(Big clue there as to what Hyppia hopes Gardner will add in this second half).
Just before that Dunk got in a very good headed clearance from a Charlton cross.
Albion have just wasted three good positions with poor balls into the box.
They were more precise in their build-up when Teixeira and Colunga combined but the latter opted for one trick too many before shooting and was crowded out on the edge of the box.
Albion have made a lively start to the half attacking the North Stand. Mackail-Smith fed off a knock down and volleyed wide on the turn, then Bennett charged into the box and rifled a shot into the side netting at Henderson’s near post.
What problem are you having Mikey?

Chances and possession out-way Charltons--just need to score at least TWO goals!!
Anyone else having problems with Argus updating reports?
Half time changes - Gardner on for Crofts for the hosts while Charlton send on Simon Church for fellow striker George Tucudean.
Albion were clapped off at the break.
Nathan Jones went on to the pitch to have a few words with Colunga, who was last to leave.
The Spaniard has been sharp and lively but had the chance for a home debut goal and fired it over.
We had two added minutes and they saw Tucudean launch an outrageous volley from out on the right which travelled at some speed and hit the side-netting at the near post. I suspect Stockdale had it covered.
Should be 1-1. Colunga hooked over from close range after Dunk got his head to Holla's corner. #bhafc— @AndyNaylorArgus 30 August 2014
Dunk played his side into trouble to offer Charlton a rare look at goal.
Gudmundsson, who likes to cut in left-footed off the right wing, had a go from about 25 yards and it deflected for a corner which Bruno met with a clearing header.
Chances have been hard to come by – but Colunga should have converted the best of them so far on 40 minutes.
Mackail-Smith ran onto Bruno’s intelligent ball behind the defence to win a corner.
The flag kick was nodded down by Dunk and Colunga, on the turn, hooked his volley over the bar.
#bhafc still controlling the game, despite the score. Plenty of quality from Teixeira in possession.— @AndyNaylorArgus 30 August 2014
Virgo: "I think we're playing pretty football, getting the ball out wide, but I think Sami will want a better final ball" @NorthStandChat— @BBCSussexSport 30 August 2014
The word “organised” featured large in the piece we did about Bob Peeters and Charlton in today’s Argus.
And you can see why as they make it very hard for Albion to play through them.
The hosts have just had the ball for quite a long spell and probed left and right – and back to the left again.
But they at no time looked like finding a way through.
The crowd raised their voices thanks to a Crofts tackle on Cousins which forced the ball into Bruno’s path.
Bruno slid a return pass to Crofts and the cross was turned behind in somewhat ungainly fashion by Buyens.
But, when the corner was cleared, Holla sent a long-range volley way over the bar.
Teixeira produced a great bit of skill to dance away from Jackson midway inside the Charlton half. But, as has happened a few times, the passing broke down on the edge of the Charlton box.
Colunga has just endeared himself to home fans by chasing back and sliding in to tackle Gudmundsson in front of the West Stand.
Crowd still in good heart.
Charlton fans are singing about being top of the league.
Their team are sitting deep, looking organised and trying to get Vetokele away on counters.
Forster-Caskey was booked for a foul in the Charlton half.
Albion are still playing some nice stuff. Bruno shaped to cross from the right wing but instead measured a low pass into the near post area which begged for a one-touch finish from Mackail-Smith. But he tried to control and the danger as snuffed out in the six-yard box.
Bruno had the next chance but got under a volley as the ball bounced to him beyond the far post.
Albion have Mackail-Smith and Colunga both well up the pitch with Teixeira and Crofts looking to get in close support.
It was a very confident finish by Vetokele - and no wonder.
He now has four goals in a little more than four games in the Championship.
Teixeira could have equalised immediately. One-handed save by Henderson from his shot ten yards out. #bhafc— @AndyNaylorArgus 30 August 2014
The bubble was then burst as Charlton did what Bob Peeters loves them to do – spring forward quickly on the counter.
Danger man Vetokele led the attack and tied to thread a pass into the box.
It was blocked – but the ball bounced back to VETOKELE and he drilled a superb right-foot finish across Stockdale and low just inside the post.
Albion, though, should have levelled almost immediately.
They got Teixeira into the box and his shot was somehow saved by Henderson, who seemed to be diving the wrong way.
The loudspeakers cut out during Sussex By The Sea so the crowd raised their voices and did it on their own.
It was unplanned but it sounded really good.
The upbeat feel was retained when Colunga produced a lovely touch to win a corner.
But then Charlton, as they love to do, sprung forward on the counter raid – and scored.
Atmosphere pre kick-off buoyant. Supporters singing made up for Sussex By The Sea stuttering through the loudspeakers. #bhafc— @AndyNaylorArgus 30 August 2014
No change of ends.
We are under way with Albion defending the North Stand
Last week I said the buzz was back at the Amex.
It lives on. And has been increased by events during another good week.
The Seagulls were a touch fortunate to win at Swindon in midweek.
But they gave key playing time to several players and secured another win.
There have also been THREE new signings since Bolton were here.
Adrian Colunga had his medical after that match and starts today, Sam Baldock and Gary Gardner are on the bench.
Here come the teams....
