Two people were taken to hospital after an accident involving a moped on the A27.

The rider and pillion passenger escaped with cuts and bruises after coming off near the American Express Community Stadium and University of Sussex before 8.40am.

They had been travelling eastbound towards Lewes.

The pair were taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

No other vehicles were involved.

Police were able to move the moped to the side of the road but the accident still created heavy traffic in the direction of Lewes.

Best wishes to the rider and his family.

A27 now closed until just after evening rush hour, as the emergency services find traffic incidents exciting!

Not a moped. Not near the Amex stadium. Traffic not queuing. Otherwise 100% accurate.

'Queuing' wasn't mentioned.

At least the Argus got the direction of travel correct.

Well they had a 50% chance of guessing correctly.

Could it mean that because the riders (thankfully) were not seriously hurt it could be moved?

Looking at the picture again, the rear tyre of the bike appears to be flat. Could this be the cause of the accident? And it's still not a moped!

An earlier report said traffic was queuing.

The report was updated four hours ago. I wrote my comment five hours ago.

The bike crashed in the carriageway and caused massive queues. I know this because two of my work colleagues phoned ahead to say they were in one. I checked this site to find out what had gone on, and the report correctly stated that the queues were there.

Martin saw the video and made his comment. It shows the aftermath of the bike being moved, with the traffic flowing again, but it does not show the traffic that might still have been queuing elsewhere as a result.

The Argus was quite correct to retain the 'queuing' comment after the video had been posted, and Martin was incorrect to complain about the report's accuracy.

I do hope that clears up this pathetic argument, and that the couple make a full and swift recovery.
