Luxury car maker Rolls-Royce has announced plans for a major new development which will secure 200 jobs.

The 30,000 sq m technology and logistics centre to be built in Bognor was heralded as a “major coup for the town”.

It will be on the Oldlands Farm Business Park on the northern edge of Bognor, eight miles from the main Rolls-Royce plant at Goodwood.

Some existing staff will be transferred over while new roles will be created with space for further expansion in the future.

The centre should be fully operational in early 2016 and will take advantage of the forthcoming Bognor northern relief road, due to open in 2015. It will be part of Enterprise Bognor Regis which is being developed as a premier business location with Rolls-Royce the first to take advantage of the initiative.

The centre will bring together a warehouse for production parts, a distribution centre and a workshop for car preparation.

Torsten Müller-Ötvös, chief executive officer, said: “I am delighted to announce our new technology and logistics centre, which reflects the sustainable development and ongoing success of our business. This new facility will provide the required local logistics support for our current and future models.”

Nick Gibb, MP for Bognor Regis and Littlehampton, said: “To have attracted a company of the calibre of Rolls-Royce to Bognor Regis is a major coup for our town. The association of Rolls-Royce with Bognor Regis, Chichester, Goodwood and West Sussex can only help the long term economic prosperity of the area.”

Councillor Gill Brown, leader of Arun District Council, said: “This is exceptionally good news for Bognor Regis and the district as a whole.

“This is a significant step forward for the regeneration of Bognor Regis and I am confident more will come in the near future.”

Ron Crank, chief executive of Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership, said: “The new investment and expansion will help our region remain at the cutting edge of automotive design, logistics and manufacture, whilst creating opportunities for local people to develop careers with a globally renowned company.”
