A WOMAN was assaulted as she walked in a tunnel, suffering significant swelling and bruising to her face.

The 30-year-old was grabbed and pushed against the wall by her attacker, and punched in the face while she tried to escape.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident in a tunnel near Bloomery Way, Maresfield, Wealden, between 9pm and 10pm on Wednesday September 10.

Her attacker, who approached her from the Oakwood Park showground direction, is described as approximately 5' 9", of medium build, wearing a dark-coloured beanie hat and a black bomber jacket.

Police also hope two men whom the woman passed as she was running away will come forward and help them find the attacker. One of them was holding a torch.
