QUESTIONS have already started to come in for police chiefs to answer at an upcoming public discussion, chaired by The Argus.

Readers will have their questions put to Chief Constable Giles York, Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Katy Bourne and Chief Superintendent Nev Kemp, commander for Brighton and Hove.

The trio will answer pre-submitted and audience questions at Hove Town Hall on October 6.

The event, chaired by The Argus editor Michael Beard, is the first in a series of public discussions the PCC will host around Sussex over the next six months.

Mr Kemp said it would be a “perfect platform for residents to have their say”.

He added: “As Brighton and Hove Divisional Commander it is important that I hear from the local community on the issues that are affecting them.”

Readers’ questions sent to us so far include policing numbers and the policing of unauthorised traveller camps.

Questions can be on any policing topic, but it is expected the discussion will cover domestic abuse, burglary, sexual offences, anti-social behaviour, protests, public satisfaction in the police and travellers.

Mr Beard has encouraged readers to submit challenging questions and take advantage of a “unique opportunity” to quiz police chiefs.

Chief Constable York said he wanted “to hear the views of the residents of Brighton and Hove about the policing issues which are important to them”.

He said: “It will be another great opportunity for me to meet the public in Sussex with the Police and Crime Commissioner and Chief Supt Nev Kemp.”

Any questions not answered on the night will be answered later and published online, unless they contain personal information.

Mrs Bourne said: “These events will set the context for policing in Sussex and, most importantly, provide an opportunity for residents to pose questions about topical issues directly to me, the Chief Constable and Divisional Commander.”

Doors open at 6pm and the event will finish at 7.45pm. Hove Town Hall is on Norton Road. Everyone is welcome and the event is free.
