A man ran over a woman’s foot during a suspected shop theft getaway.

The 30-year-old female pedestrian suffered swelling and bruising after the dark-coloured people carrier was driven over her foot.

Police believe she may have been helping others try and stop the car from leaving the scene when she was hurt.

The passenger of the car had just been confronted as he was suspected of stealing lager from a local shop in Hawthorn Road, Bognor, at 10.10pm last Saturday.

The people carrier did not stop and drove off towards Chichester Road.

The woman was taken to St Richard's Hospital, Chichester, for treatment.

PC Marie Lane said: “We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or the theft.

“Also if you have any other information which could help our investigation please contact us.”

The passenger is described as a white man, 5ft 9in, of stocky build with short mousey coloured hair. He was wearing a grey T-shirt with writing on the front and dark trousers. He also had a tattoo on his right upper arm.

The driver of the car is described as a white man with long hair.
