The four hour bin strike in place this morning has come to an end.

The striking HGV drivers in Brighton are returning to their shifts after the GMB union voted to continue today's strike action yesterday.

The work to rule is still in force indefinitely until a resolution can be found.

The GMB said yesterday their members have "little to no" trust in management to stick to the council's proposed timetable but they are not "walking away" from the negotiating table

Yesterday, Geoff Raw, Brighton & Hove City Council’s Executive Director for Environment, Development & Housing, said: “I am really disappointed that we have been unable to reach an agreement with the GMB and deeply sorry that we are likely to face more industrial action.

“We did agree with the GMB that we will work together on a full service redesign but we are unable to raise the salaries of one group of workers without equal pay implications across the entire organisation.

“I live in the city and fully understand the frustration and anger that many people are expressing about the state of the streets but please be assured we are working to do all that is necessary to develop a service which meets the city’s needs.”
