Here we are again. If there was a prize for revisiting old projects our city would be gold medal contenders. But what is the alternative, to have your say get knocked back and never mention it again?

No. Some might find campaigners, petition-gatherers and protesters irritating but these legions of committee building, form printing and noise makers are what keeps the elected caretakers of all things local on their toes and important issues to the fore.

I for one welcome change and innovation. I’ve stated before that the Regency architects and the Prince Regent caused an outcry over their plans and designs. Well thank goodness they persevered.

The i360, however much of a gamble, is a bold and exciting vision of future design.

Brighton and Hove is not a museum. It is an ever-evolving smorgasbord of ideas and evolution.

My vision would be of a futuristic pier to complement the i360.

A grand ambitious commercially funded asset to the city incorporating all the much-needed benefits of a multipurpose arena for ice-skating/hockey, concerts, hotel, shops, bars and restaurants proofed against the weather for a 365 day a year attraction.

I hope the West Pier Trust mobilises support for action. Engage with the citizens and ask for help, ideas and support.

Who knows? Some thought the i360 would never happen.

Carpe diem.
