Nearly 200 Zumba dancers have dressed up as zombies in a bid to set a new world record for the largest crowd of the undead taking part in the fitness class.

A total of 183 zombie dancers took part in the record attempt held during the month-long Halloween event at Tulleys Farm near Crawley.

Stuart Beare, of Tulleys Farm, said: "The opening night of our Shocktober Fest Scream Park has become a traditional dressing up opportunity. Fans love to get into the spirit of it. We had some amazing costumes and make-up and we were delighted to see many dressed as sporty zombies for the occasion. The officials counted 183 zombies dancing in the Zumba Class.

"We have registered the event with Guinness World Records, but as they don't currently have a category for the largest Zumba class featuring zombies we will have to wait to find out if Guinness recognises it. We will be sending in our video evidence and official adjudicators' reports, and wait to hear from Guinness."

The Guinness World Record criteria for a zombie gathering is that all participants must be wearing zombie make-up which includes white face, dark eyes and some red colour and/or zombie costumes/clothing.

The Zumba class featuring zombies was led from the stage by qualified instructor Nicole Witsotski from Crawley and a team of dancers.

The 15-minute set included tracks featuring zombie dance favourites such as Michael Jackson's Thriller, The Time Warp, and some special mixes including Dracula Tango and a Ghostbusters/Gangnam Style mash-up.

Up to 5,000 people a night attend the Shocktober Fest Scream Park which includes seven different haunted attractions and rides plus many other Halloween themed shows and activities.

It has been voted the UK's No1 Halloween Attraction in the Screamie Awards for the past four years running.
