Mr Eric Waters from Lancing is right when he says councillors should play their part in dealing with the Government’s austerity cuts to local government.
That’s why I and the Labour Group support a £38,000 cut in the councillor allowances budget, and will support a review of the number of city councillors after the elections in May if we are elected.
The Tories in Brighton and Hove oppose any reduction in councillor allowances, preferring to see services cut instead.
Abolishing local councillors entirely would only save a tiny fraction of the money needed to offset the cuts of over £100 million being imposed by David Cameron on the city and our local services.
Councillor Warren Morgan Leader of the Labour and Co-op Group Brighton and Hove City Council
