A GANG hit men in the face with weapons in an unprovoked attack.

Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault on two men, aged 28 and 38, in Southgate Avenue, Crawley on Saturday. 25/10 The victims were walking home at 11pm when the attack between the railway bridge and Southgate Drive.

One was taken to hospital with a facial injury after he was struck in the face with what is believed to have been a blunt weapon. The other was punched several times in the head causing bruising. His mobile phone was also stolen after he dropped it on the ground.

The victims believe around ten Polish-speaking people were involved.

Detective constable Rees Hopcraft said: "After the initial assault, the victims retaliated and a fight broke out, the suspects eventually running off as a group towards the town centre.

"This would have been when many people were in the area enjoying a night out or possibly driving by.
