BURGLARS broke into five homes in one night and police are appealing for witnesses.

Between 6pm and 9pm on Tuesday 28/10 two houses in Burgess Hill, two in Ardingly and one in Crawley Down were targeted. An attempt was also made to break into a home in Turners Hill.

The first homes were in London Road and Folders Lane in Burgess Hill, which were broken into between 6pm and 7pm.

Jewellery including gold and silver chains, lockets and rings as well as electrical items was stolen.

Two homes in Munnion Road were then broken into between 6.45pm and 8pm during which jewellery was stolen.

At about 8pm the burglars tried unsuccessfully to break into a home in Hill House Close, Turners Hill, but left empty handed.

Between 7.45pm and 9pm thieves also broke into a house in Hophurst Drive, Crawley Down, and stole a jewellery box containing gold rings, a gold watch and a gold locket.

Detective Sergeant Michelle Auger said police suspected the burglaries are linked and said: “There are extra patrols in the area with officers visiting houses and speaking to residents.

"We urgently need to speak to anyone who saw people acting suspiciously near any of the homes that were burgled, unusual vehicle, either small and dark or silver.”
