A burglar is back in police custody after more than a month on the run.

Convicted burglar Fred King absconded from Ford prison at 6pm on October 1 but was recaptured last night by Wealden neighbourhood policing officers.

Officers arrested King after visiting Swan Barn caravan site in Downash, Hailsham, while making inquiries at 10pm last night.

Mr King, from Hailsham, was jailed for five years after committing a burglary in the town in August 2013.

Chief Inspector Gary Pike said: "King had a history of committing burglaries so we are glad to have found him and put him back into prison.

"I would like to thank the public and the media for their help in tracking him down."
