A WELL-KNOWN Brighton musician has been taken ill during a European tour.

Dan Woods, stage name Chesty Charnsworth, lead guitarist of comedy music hall act The Fish Brothers, fell ill while on tour in Germany.

Playing guitar for another band, Barnstormer, the musical vehicle of renowned Southwick poet Attila the Stockbroker, Mr Woods, 55, of Old Shoreham Road, Brighton, complained of stomach pains.

He was diagnosed with a perforated bowel and was set to undergo an operation in Mainz in northern Germany yesterday.

Fish Brothers and Barnstormer drummer M M McGhee, 45, from Brighton, said: “Dan felt very unwell and wanted to carry on but we thought it best to get him checked out.

“He is keeping chipper and insisted we carry on the tour while he is in hospital.

“We played last night and it was so strange to do a show without him after all these years.”

Mr Woods’ progress will be updated on www.thefishbrothers.com or on The Fish Brothers and Attila the Stockbroker’s Facebook pages.
