A MARRIED couple will take a trip half way around the world to see their daughter and grandchild after striking it lucky in a EuroMillions draw.

Reg and Stell Holman from Brighton were shocked to find they had not only won £1,000,000 but also scooped a trip of a lifetime to Australia's Makepeace Island for themselves and six guests.

The wedded pair of 42 years bought their ticket from Morrisons in Newland Street, Worthing, and celebrated their seven-figure win with a Harvester meal and the prospect of replacing their Rover 45 with a Citroen C4.

Mrs Holman, 74, said her husband, still a building tradesman at 80, had predicted the win.

She said: “Reg said earlier in the week, 'I think we are going to win the lottery soon.'

“He asked me to check the EuroMillions ticket against the numbers on the website, so imagine what I felt when I realised we had won. I was still in shock when he handed me the phone to speak to Camelot.”

The couple are known locally for their fundraising efforts with Lions Clubs International and Mrs Holman, a former clerical worker, has always played EuroMillions.

She said: “We have done nothing but chat about what we are going to do with the money since then.

“We want to help our family and friends first as this has always been really important to us and we are looking forward to seeing our daughter and her family in Australia as we haven't seen them for a few years.

“I can't put into words what the win means to us.”

The EuroMillions draw on Friday, October 31, saw 25 guaranteed millionaires made in the UK, who each also won a private island getaway.

The draw which saw Mr and Mrs Holman win was the first EuroMillions Mega Friday draw and prizes continue to be offered on the last Friday of each month.

The second EuroMillions Mega Friday draw, which will help celebrate 20 years of The National Lottery, takes place on Friday, November 28.
