Emergency services are on the scene of a crash involving a taxi and a van.
The accident happened near the Brighton Wheel on Madeira Drive.
Onlookers said the taxi and van met head-on, with the taxi facing the Palace Pier.
Initial reports suggest the fire service are trying to release someone from the taxi with cutting gear.
One caller told The Argus: "There's a big crowd of people down there.
"It looks pretty nasty."
Sussex Police are in attendance, along with firefighters from Preston Circus and Roedean, and ambulance staff who were first on the scene.
