Sussex has woken to a gloomy and wet morning today with journeys to work and school set to be delayed by heavy rain.

At present there have been no major incidents but poor visibility and large amounts of surface water has caused tailbacks and slow traffic along the A27 between Worthing and Lancing and Lancing and Shoreham, approaching Chichester and all along the Drove Road in Brighton from it junction with the A27 into Woodingdean.

Lewes Road in Brighton is also resembling a shallow swimming pool at the moment as our pictures show.

Brighton and Hove Buses have said that due to a fallen tree near Uckfield, their 29 service is unable to serve Isfield.

West Sussex County Council has warned drivers of the wet start to the day and advised them to take extra care on your journeys this morning.

The heaviest of the rain is expected to last across Sussex until mid-morning but so far it appears that the county has been spared the worst of the predicted weather which included fears of 43mph gusts of wind, lightning and hail.

Just north of the county, there are horrific delays on the anti-clockwise M25 because of road subsidence in Surrey at junction nine which has left 14 mile tailbacks and delays of up to three hours.
