TWO romantics went the extra mile when they got down on one knee – and thankfully both girlfriends said yes.

Dan Glover, a performing arts student, decided to surprise his film-loving partner by recording a proposal video which was shown after the trailers at the cinema.

The 20-year-old, originally from Brighton but now studying in Chichester, took his girlfriend Becky Hamblett, 18, to East Grinstead cinema to watch Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.

Little did she know he had recorded a YouTube style video in which he listed the 10 reasons for why he was is in love with her.

At the end of the video, the student turned to his girlfriend and proposed.

He said: “I was so nervous. I arranged it all in advance with the cinema and they were fantastic.

“On the way I was shaking and she asked me what was wrong, so I just had to pretend that I was cold.

“Thankfully she said yes and we are planning to get married in 2018.”

Simon Coates, 51, from Hurstpierpoint, also chose a special venue for his proposal – number 10 Downing Street.

He was at the Prime Minister’s home with girlfriend of three years Caroline Jayne Revell for a special charity reception organised by Dimbleby Cancer Care and the Quintessentially Foundation.

He said: “I was racking my brains for a few weeks to think of a special place where I could propose and then when we received the invitation from the Quintessentially Foundation to attend the charity event, I thought why not?”

Caroline said: “I was completely shocked and thrilled and had to have a glass of water to relax afterwards.

“It was such a unique venue and I was very moved by Simon taking the time to plan something so wonderful.

“The charity now holds a special place in my heart and I plan to start supporting them in any way I can.”

Dimbleby Cancer Care, based at Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospitals in London, was set up in 1966 in memory of renowned broadcaster Richard Dimbleby. It aims to provide practical and psychological support to people living with cancer and to their families and carers.
