A UNIVERSITY is helping to fight the spread of Ebola.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has adopted new hygiene guidelines, with input from the University of Brighton.

The guidelines are the result of advice from experts from around the world, led by Huw Taylor, the university’s professor of microbial ecology.

Professor Taylor said: “Our environment and public health research group has been developing low-cost ways to disinfect human waste following disease outbreaks.

“The fact the potential of these methods is now recognised by the WHO is testimony to the team’s excellent research, hard work and commitment.

“We are pleased that in this way we are helping to combat this dreadful disease.”

The guidelines will help people working with Ebola victims to reduce the risk of the disease spreading in healthcare settings through better sanitary practice.
