A LOCAL bed shop that’s been guaranteeing a good night’s sleep for nearly half a century is proving king of small businesses.

Brighton Bed Centre in Portland Road, Hove, has been serving the city with quality, hand-made beds and mattresses since 1967.

Owner Stuart Morris told The Argus how supporting small businesses gives the local economy a welcome and much-needed boost.

He said: “There’s a statistic that says if you buy goods from a big chain or franchise, 83p of every £1 spent goes elsewhere, out of the town.

“But if you support your local businesses, then the tables are turned. Something like 83p is then pumped back into the community, helping local families and independent firms progress. Small business is the lifeblood of our city and communities.”

Small Business Saturday is held on the first Saturday in December in an attempt to give local firms a boost.

Each day this week in the run-up, we will be featuring an independent Sussex company.
