With reference to K Upton's letter dated December 4 regarding the future of the Hippodrome Theatre, pictured, I remember my mother and father taking me there to see Frankie Vaughan as a birthday treat many moons ago.
A friend of my mother’s was an usherette there at the time, and arranged for us to go behind stage where he signed my programme and wished me happy birthday.
Over the years I did see one or two shows there in truly magnificent surroundings. I am sure that if this building was brought to life again we could have wonderful events there.
We could have some acts from across the world. It would be the ideal venue to produce a Passion Play at Easter time.
This is a very important venue that needs to stay and be used. It would be ideal for conferences and could replace the eyesore at the bottom of West Street.
I was under the impression that if a building is listed Grade II*, it cannot be touched in any way, without a strong and hard fought battle.
Of course the Green Party want to pull it down. It would make an ideal site for the travellers to pitch camp.
We only have five months to go before the general election, so hopefully, that won’t be time enough for the ‘Greens’ to put any more of their ‘schemes’ in place and ruin a bit more of our city.
