A MAN had to be cut from his car after a crash this morning.

Firefighters had to free the man, who had suffered leg injuries, after the incident involving at least three cars on the A259 South Coast Road at 6.50am between East Dean and Exceat Bridge in Seaford.

He was taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton just before 8.30am along with a woman whose injuries are not thought to be serious.

Due to the man's leg injury, fire crews were forced to physically lift him out of the wreckage, which required cutting away part of the vehicle.

Five cars and three ambulances attended the crash.

While emergency services were at the scene, the road was closed from Seven Sisters to the junction with Litlington Road.

Brighton and Hove BusCompany said services 12, 12A and 12X were being diverted in both directions via the A26 and A27 to and from Eastbourne.

It added Southern Rail is accepting tickets between Eastbourne and Brighton including to Newhaven and Seaford.

A shuttle bus was operating between Newhaven and Seaford via the Chyngton estate.

A spokesman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said two fire engines, from Eastbourne, had been sent to the scene just before 7am.
