Campaigners calling for a new GP surgery have staged a protest ahead of a meeting being held this afternoon.

The Replace Eaton Place campaign is calling on health bosses to establish a new GP practice in east Brighton.

The two doctors running Eaton Place Surgery in Brighton are due to retire and the practice will close at the end of February.

It means the more than 5,000 patients on the surgery's books have to find alternative GPs in the area.

Protestors say patients are already struggling to find a practice to accept them and some surgeries are awkward to get to.

They say the move will put pressure on other practices and could lead to longer waits for appointments.

NHS England says no alternative surgery could be set up in time to take on the patients when the GPs at Eaton Place step down.

The subject was being discussed at a Brighton and Hove City Council health and wellbeing committee at Hove town hall today.
