FOUR children’s centres could close so a council can save money.

Brighton and Hove City Council said it plans to merge the services and cut the number of centres from 12 to 8 in order to make £779,000 of savings next year.

The council would also want to make drop-in groups book for time limited sessions instead, with parents who need more help being allowed to attend more sessions.

A spokesman said the proposal had to be seen in the context of rising cost and a cut of £100 million of government funding in the next four years.

He said: “The proposals aim to enable the council to deliver the best possible children’s centre services in future. They are part of a drive to focus council resources on services that will deliver the best outcomes for those families who need most help.”
