A 24-YEAR-OLD man has died after being stabbed in the early hours of Christmas morning.

Emergency Services were called to Warwick Mount, Montague Street, Brighton, at 1am on Christmas Day, to reports of a man having been stabbed.

And a 30-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of murder over the incident.

He was in custody as The Argus went to press.

Police were guarding the scene of the incident in the high-rise block of flats on Boxing Day, as officers continued to gather evidence.

The victim was from Rustington, near Littlehampton, a Sussex Police spokesman said.

One neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: “When I woke up at about 10am on Christmas day there was two forensic vans and a police car outside that building and forensics officers in full gear.

“They came out and they appeared to have filled out a massive evidence bag.

“There has been nothing like that there before. We get a few kids drinking and things like that but never, ever anything like that.

“I have lived here 35 years and I have never seen the police called there.

“On the bottom floor there is lots of families with young children.”

One resident of the flats, who asked not to be named, said: “I came out of the building to go for a walk and there were lots of police and forensics coming in and out of the building.

“I did not hear anything about what had happened.

“There have been problems with drugs in this building – people coming in and out.”

A police spokesman said officers were still trying to establish the circumstances but were not looking for anyone else in connection with the death.

A post mortem was due to be held yesterday (Friday) as The Argus went to press.
