Last year, on receiving details of the redevelopment of the King Alfred Centre, I telephoned the number on the brochure and told the person I spoke to I thought the proposed building was hideous and that I felt sorry for the people who would have to live within its vicinity.
I was told the majority of the residents were in favour of the development, to which I replied that everyone I spoke to seemed to be against it.
So I decided to conduct my own poll.
My result: out of 100 people, 80 were strongly against it, ten were undecided, nine thought it was okay but didn't live directly in the vicinity and one had "no comment" to make.
The poll covered a variety of age groups and was taken over a period of a few weeks. Maybe I picked the wrong 100 people, or possibly the right 100?
