TWO women were taken to hospital after being hit by a bus.
City centre traffic ground to a halt after the accident just before 6.20pm on Monday in North Street, Brighton, close to the TK Maxx store.
A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service said they were both taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital as a priority. He said a 20-year-old woman suffered a head injury while a 19-year-old suffered suspected elbow, chest and leg injuries.
Both women were conscious and their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
Witnesses reported seeing a Compass bus involved in the collision. The accident led to major delays for at least an hour to local bus routes.
Sean Jordan, a staff member at Subway, saw the aftermath of the accident.
He said: “Two girls were sat on the pavement for a long time before they were taken away in an ambulance.
“Buses were blocking the whole of North Street for ages.”
The Argus has been unable to contact anyone from Compass so far.
