Communication is key – it is a saying we hear so often.

And when it comes to roadworks, or even the logistics surrounding them, letting people know what is going on is so important.

On the whole, in this day and age, there is no end of information sources to get the word out there.

But when something turns up unexpectedly, especially if a business relies on good access, it can cause upset.

And so it was with the traders in Ship Street, Brighton, this week, who were not aware that a dump for building materials would appear in their road.

That the council is to move the load after being lobbied by businesses is to be commended. But making sure those affected are aware of the intention in the first place must be the priority.
