A WOMAN’s electricity and gas were transferred to a new supplier without her knowledge.

The first that Sylvia Betts knew of the switchover to E.ON was when she received a letter about her electricity bill on December 10 last year.

The 57-year-old of Steyne Road, Seaford, said: “I told them, ‘don’t expect to bill me because you won’t get paid.’ “All they are doing is fobbing me off.

“I have been with British Gas for more than 11 years and had no problems with them.

“It’s E.ON that’s the problem.”

Some seven weeks on, Miss Betts is still waiting for her gas to revert to British Gas, with whom she had built up credit to get her through the bitter winter.

Her electricity supply has now gone back to EDF, though she is still struggling to get E.ON to return her to British Gas.

She said: “I’m just getting the run-around. They didn’t even let me know the gas had gone over to them.

“It’s a complete nightmare.”

The problem started on December 3 when Miss Betts’s neighbour moved over to E.ON.

While his utilities went over as planned, Miss Betts also found herself with the company against her will.

She added: “I can understand him getting the electric meters mixed up but not the gas boxes.

“If E.ON can put one back, why can’t they put the other back too?

“Until it goes back to British Gas I’m not using any heating, no matter how cold it gets.”

An E.ON spokeswoman said: “We’re very sorry for any concern or inconvenience this issue may have caused Miss Betts.

“This occurred due to a wrongly claimed gas account at her property.

“When we were made aware of the issue we immediately raised an erroneous transfer with Miss Betts’ previous supplier but this was initially rejected due to additional information needed.

“We’ve written to Miss Betts to apologise fully for this error and assure her that we are working to get her gas supply returned to her previous supplier as quickly as possible.”
